There are formidable social, economic and environmental reasons why it shouldn't be cultivated.
The manner within which the biotechnology Appraisal Committee (GEAC) recently cleared the
proposal for genetically changed (GM) mustard is extraordinary to mention the smallest amount.
It makes a mockery of the commitment within the Bharatiya Janata Party declaration that “GM
foods won't be allowed while not full scientific analysis on the future effects on soil, production
and biological impact on consumers”. The Prime Minister had delighted customers by loaning his
weight to the promotion of organic food. On the opposite hand, metric weight unit and organic
are utterly incompatible.
